Facilitated Stretching
Description
Facilitated Stretching, including proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), agonist contract, passive stretch and post isometric relaxation (PIR) - are techniques used to increase range of motion and flexibility. These methods have been found to increase range of motion in trained and untrained individuals. Although the duration of these effects vary, this is a great option for patients experiencing limited range of potion due to pain or muscle spasming and tension. Patients remain fully clothed during this treatment and may be expected to take an active and cooperative role in application of the therapy.
